Dreams and visions are an important part of God's communication with us. They are part of the language of the Holy Spirit designed to give us heavenly prophetic insights.
Heavenly prophetic insights can be defined as the revelation of heavenly dreams and visions that give us a glimpse of what is or is about to happen.
In Job 33:14-15 we read:
"For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, While slumbering on their beds,"
Job says that no one pays attention to the answers God gives us at night in dreams and visions. It's a pity that we don't realize that God also communicates with us in this manner.
So often we dream of things that carry an important message, but that receive no further attention from us. We wake up and sometimes talk about a strange or maybe even a bad dream, but we don't do anything with it.
And yet the Bible is full of examples where dreams and visions played an extremely important role. As with Joseph, when God used dreams to show him his future, and later on, while in prison, even made him an interpreter of dreams, which brought him before Pharaoh. His brothers even called him the master dreamer. (Genesis 37.19)
When it came to interpreting King Nebuchadnezzar's dream, Daniel went to the Lord, who gave him not only the interpretation, but also the dream that the king had. The prophet Daniel spoke of "a God in heaven who reveals mysteries." Daniel 2:19 Daniel 2:19 “The mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. “
So you can see how important dreams are. More than 200 times the Bible refers to "dreams" or "visions" or variations thereof. The average person spends at least a third of their life sleeping and six years of that dreaming, so dreams are an important means of communicating with us.
